Corrective Procedures for hair transplant patinets who had plugs

This story follows Dean, a 36 year old male who had several hair transplants in the 80's when hair plugs were the order of the day. Dean has had to wear a hairsystem for many years to cover up his unnatural hairline. Recently after becoming tired of the daily maintenance needed to keep it looking natural, he decided to look into corrective surgery. His quest led him to the New Hair Institute in Los Angeles where he has been undergoing several corrective procedures designed to remove the unnatural plugs and allow him to regain a normal looking hairline so he no longer has to wear his hairsystem.

PROCEDURE THREE

On June 10th, 2002, Dean had the third of four anticipated procedures. This procedure was to done to transplant a significant amount of hair to give him the additional coverage he desired. A few remaining plugs were also removed during the course of the procedure

Dr. McClellan first started by drawing a line across Dean's forehead where his hairline would be recreated. This was about 3/4 inch lower than the incision scar from his previous procedure.

While the previous two procedures were done to extract the old plugs and redistribute the hairs, this procedure was focused on extracting donor hair from the back of his head to add density and remove some of the open donor scarring.

During this procedure Dr. McClellan removed a donor strip from the rear of Dean's head 12 inches long and 1 inch wide. This removed some of the open donor scarring at the back of Dean's head. After the donor strip was handed to the technicians for dissection, Dr. McClellan used a 3 mm punch to punch out 15 remaining hair plugs which were then also given to the technicians for dissection under the microscope.

A total of 1696 follicular units were transplanted, 1651 were extracted from the donor strip and an additional 45 were extracted from the old hair plugs. Dr. McClellan placed some of the grafts below the incision scar from the previous surgery and the remaining hairs were transplanted throughout the frontal part of Dean's head.

The entire procedure lasted from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
